From Classroom to Bookshelf
How a love for teaching and writing led Scott to become a children’s book author.
- Scott was born and raised in the city of Sydney. He still lives there with his family in the outer rural suburb of Mount Annan.
- As a child he grew up in a beach suburb and enjoyed a love of sport, reading and travel. He often found a series of books and strived to read the lot!
- He always had a love of learning and so he progressed to training as a teacher. This is a job that he completed for forty years, teaching a variety of primary school aged pupils.
- Watching the emergence of technology through the internet, Scott took on the challenge of the modern learner when the iPad generation began.
- Scott’s love of teaching developed his passion for writing. He often conducted advanced writing workshops and encouraged children to enter competitions, before turning his own hand to writing children’s books.
Scott has written four books in a series that he hopes children can enjoy and use their imaginations like he did when he was their age.
Stories that make Reading FUN!
Scott’s mission is to create engaging books for reluctant readers.
A message from Scott...
Having been a teacher for 40 years, I have seen so many changes over time in how children spend their hours each day…
Having read my first book to my class of Year 5 and 6 students, I watched as the children discussed the action and spoke about the character they liked best...
I am hopeful that many children can read these stories and use their imaginations like I did when I was a child and enjoy reading again.Scott Williamson
- Before the internet came along, children enjoyed a variety of past times which included reading.
- They would find a book they liked and collect the series and immerse themselves in the characters and their stories.
- The emergence of the internet, led to iPads, and then the dependence on mobile phones.
- These changes dragged the focus away from books and into technology.
- While modern technology is wonderful in many ways, I still believe in the power of imagination, and books certainly provide that avenue for the modern day child.
- My books are aimed at recreating a love of reading.
- It will be a safe place where readers can enjoy an Australian series that is easy to follow and relate to characters who are so different but work well together.
